Reach: One boarding and day school on Cicia Island, every day during the school year

Managed by: Cicia Island school and 5 local villages 


 

Green Schools Program

Garden program


Started: 2020

Status: Ongoing


Reach: Two Maritime Islands public boarding schools, Monday - Friday during the school year

School level: Primary


Program goals:

  • Improve food security for students  

  • Improve nutrition status  

  • Improving socioeconomics of schools by decreasing reliance of schools on funding for school food and community food supply  

  • Support connecting of the younger generation to culture and land (from spiritual and practical element)  

  • Integration of wider community into school garden 


Implemented by Pacific Blue Foundation who support management with local traditional governance/leaders and school mother’s group

Maritime Islands Boarding School Feeding Program

Feeding program (breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Status: Ongoing


Reach: Public boarding school, Maritime Islands. Monday - Friday during the school year.

School level: Primary


 

TKC Gardening Pilot Project

Garden program


Started: 2022

Status: Finished 2022 (6-week pilot)

Program goals:

  • To increase students' awareness and appreciation of local foods 

  • Foster students' connection to the land 


 

Save the Children Feeding Program

Feeding program


Started: 2016

Status: Finished, temporary disaster relief program


Reach: 16 boarding and day schools adversely affected by natural disasters

School level: Unsure


Lead implementers: Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts and Save the Children Fiji 

Stakeholders engaged: Teachers, Parents Teachers Association and the Women’s group. 


 

Free Milk initiative

School level: Primary (Year 1 students only)


Program goals:

  • Assist reach daily calcium needs and improve nutrition status among year 1 students 

  • Influence children to develop a lifelong healthy habit of consuming milk and milk products and reach calcium needs  

  • To meet educational goals 

  • To meet nutritional and/or health goals
